BTECH research seminar: Gianlorenzo D'Angelo

Abstract: The influence maximization paradigm has been used by researchers in various fields in order to study how information or social influence spreads in social networks. While so far the focus has been mostly on maximizing overall spread, this may lead to unfair dissemination among user groups. Thus, recently fairness criteria have been taken into account in this setting. In this talk, we propose several strategies to achieve fairness in this context. We propose different optimization problems that aim at maximizing the overall spread while guaranteeing the solutions to be fair with respect to different fairness criteria. We give computational hardness and algorithmic results for the defined problems and analyze the proposed algorithms both from a theoretical and an experimental point of view.
