Exploring how AI can support supply chain planning
Research assistant Beulah Devathasan explores how AI can support supply chain planning and how organisational conditions influence its use in practice.
A short intro: Who are you and what’s your professional background?
My name is Beulah Devathasan, and I recently completed my MSc in Technology-Based Business Development (TBBD) at Aarhus University. Before that, I completed a bachelor’s degree in Global Management and Manufacturing (GMM). During my studies, I worked at LINAK for a couple of years, where I was involved in procurement and upstream supply chain processes. I also explored how technologies such as LLMs, RPA and Microsoft Power BI can be applied to business processes.
I am motivated by exploring how technology can be used to improve processes, support decision-making and create value in supply chain and business operations.
What is your area of work?
I’m employed as a research assistant in the EngTech section. My work focuses on exploring current and new practices related to AI, with S&OP as an application domain. The research considers how different maturity levels and organisational conditions influence the use and implementation of AI in supply chain planning. My educational background in supply chain management and professional experience in procurement have given me a practical perspective on the role of technology in supply chain processes, which provides a relevant foundation for this research. I find it interesting to explore how new technologies can be used to support supply chain and procurement processes in practice.
Why did you choose to work at the Department of Business Development and Technology?
I was drawn to BTECH because of its interdisciplinary approach to research and education. The combination of technology, business and organisational development reflects the areas I have worked with throughout my studies and professional experience. I value the department’s focus on addressing real-world challenges and creating knowledge that can be applied in practice. For me, BTECH provides an inspiring environment in which to further develop my expertise while contributing to research that is relevant to industry.
Would you like to share a bit about yourself, your family and your hobbies?
I am quite creative and like to use my creativity in different parts of my everyday life. I have been making buttercream and fondant cakes for some time and enjoy trying out different designs and learning new decorating techniques. Recently, I have also started knitting and crocheting and have made items such as sweaters and scarves. I also enjoy photography and like capturing small moments from everyday life with my digital camera. This also ties in with my interest in content creation, as I make short reels about things I do here and there. In my free time, I also enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures and countries, which I hope to do more of in the future.
