Ismail Golgeci – Associate Professor

Having lived in countries such as England, Qatar, the US, Finland, Sweden, Poland and Ukraine, Ismail Golgeci, who is originally from Turkey, is moving to Herning with his family to work as an associate professor at BTECH. He will teach and do research in the fields of marketing and supply chain management.

Why did you choose to work at the Departmentof Business Development and Technology?

The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) offers a unique business school profile that is very appealing to me. I think it is a great place to cherish and harness my versatileeducation and research experience within marketing and supply chain management. 

What isyoufield of work, and what will you be working with here?

My research interests are quite diverse. As a result of my diversework and educational experience, I have developed research interests that connect specific areas of marketing strategy, supply chain management, and international business. In this vein, the overallaim of my researchprogramme is to advance the understanding of the drivers and enablers of firms’ economic and societal value creation in local and foreign markets. At BTECH, I will be working as an associate professor of marketing strategy, and I will be teaching Advanced Marketing Management and Management of Technology courses. I also hope to supervise doctoral students with overlapping research interests.  

What is your educational background?

I hold a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Yildiz Technical University in Turkey, an MSc in Supply Chain Management from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, and aPhDin International Marketing from University of Vaasa in Finland. 

What have you worked with before?

Beforejoining Aarhus University, I have had various managerial and academic experiences in the UK, the US, Sweden, Qatar, Poland, and Ukraine. In particular, I worked as a market analyst for steel and machinery equipment firms in Poland and Ukraine, right after completing my Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. Then, after completingmy graduate degree in Supply Chain Management, I worked as a supplier relationship manager in Qatar. During my doctoral studies at the University of Tennessee and University of Vaasa, I obtained academic experience through my works as a graduateteaching instructor and research fellow. Finally, I worked at the University of East Anglia, Norwich Business School as a lecturer in Marketing from July 2015 and July 2018. 

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your family and what you do in your spare time?

I spent my early life in a village located in the TaurusMountains in the Western Mediterranean region of Turkey. Hence, I am a nature enthusiast and trulyenjoy leisure activities spent outdoors such as trekking and biking. At the same time, I currently have an international family of five members, who were born in four different countries. Nowadays, I particularly enjoy being a father and try to spend quality time with my sons.
