Language Services at BTECH

Our services

Language Services supports and assists, among others, researchers and PhD students at BTECH in their internal and external communication. Our language services include:

  • Language revision of English (and Danish) documents – from proofreading to more extensive text revision
  • Translation (primarily from Danish into English)
  • Linguistic feedback (e.g. in terms of translation tools and parallel texts)

Examples of text types:

  • Calls for papers
  • Abstracts
  • Applications for research projects
  • Articles

Booking

It is important that you deliver the text as agreed and on time. Texts submitted later or significantly longer than originally agreed will usually be delivered later, and, in certain cases, will not be accepted.

When booking, please state the following information:

  • The desired delivery date (more specific than 'as soon as possible')
  • The length of the text
  • Any special considerations in terms of the target audience or context
  • Whether you prefer British or American English (unless otherwise stated, we use British English spelling and punctuation)
  • Contact person in case the language reviewer has questions
  • Format: Word, PDF, other?

Before submitting the source text, please make sure of the following:

  • Is the text complete (i.e. no proofreading marks or comments)?
  • Have the requirements for the task been clarified (e.g. specific terminology)?
  • Are there any links to be translated (particularly important in connection with study-related texts)?
  • Is the text relevant to the target audience (i.e. is there any information which should be included or excluded depending on the target audience?)?

Deadlines

Tasks are handled on a 'first come, first served' basis and provided that sufficient resources are available. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you book well in advance of the desired delivery date. This is particularly important in connection with large and complex texts.

We strive to comply with requests regarding deadlines, but as a rule of thumb, proofreading tasks are completed within the following time frames (excluding weekends and holidays):

  • two to five days for a short text (up to 2,000 words)
  • two to three weeks for texts no longer than 20 pages (up to 8,000 words)
  • three to four for texts between 20 and 25 pages (8-10,000 words)
  • +10,000 words and translations: To be agreed with Language Services upon booking.

Submission of texts for proofreading

Texts are returned with clearly marked changes (using the 'Track Changes' feature of Microsoft Word), and any comments and questions appear in the margin. Please run an electronic spell check on your text before submitting it (UK English).

Delivery of the text

Upon booking, the deadline for returning the text is agreed on. The author is often contacted before the deadline to discuss questions that may have arisen during the proofreading/translation process.
