The assessment committee consists of three members. Two must be from other institutions, and at least one of these must be from abroad. The committee is responsible for assessing the PhD dissertation, participating in the defence and making a final recommendation on whether the PhD degree should be awarded.
The PhD supervisor proposes the assessment committee, which must be approved by the PhD programme chair and the head of Aarhus BSS Graduate School.
The PhD student must also approve the committee.

The assessment committee begins its work, with the committee chair responsible for coordinating the assessment process and ensuring that deadlines are met.
The assessment committee holds an initial meeting to agree on the assessment process, division of responsibilities and tentative defence date.

The assessment committee prepares a written preliminary assessment of the dissertation.
The committee chair submits the report to Sven for pre-review before forwarding it to Aarhus BSS Graduate School.
Aarhus BSS Graduate School reviews the preliminary assessment report and sends it to the PhD student no later than two weeks before the scheduled defence.
The PhD student presents and defends the dissertation before the assessment committee.
Following the defence, the committee prepares its final recommendation on whether the PhD degree should be awarded.
